Multiple passengers and crew sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines jet from LA to Sydney encountered turbulence Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson told. A number of the onboard staff were injured.

Emergency medical services reported they assessed a total of five people, and transferred three to the hospital with minor injuries that comprised pain in the back and head pain. Those affected ranged from their 30s to 70s.

It is the newest example of commercial jets encountering atmospheric disturbance, with experts indicating that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.

There were 245 people and fifteen staff members on the Airbus A350, the representative said, stating that the plane landed "safely" at Sydney Airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.
