Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in September and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" came to light.

This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a gathering of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on social media on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Details of Guilty Verdict
